downtown bookman’sIn a recent story about the downtown area’s renovation projectsArizona Daily Star reporter Rob O’Dell writes “Bookman’s officials became excited talking about turning around Downtown at night and being a magnet for people. He said they were talking about building a bookstore with its own cafe as a Downtown destination spot. “

Intriguing idea.

In an earlier piece, O’Dell reported  ”…the council unanimously approved the development agreement with Williams and Dame Development to renovate the former Martin Luther King housing project, transforming it into about 80 market-rate apartments and 11 low-income units, complemented by more than 7,000 square feet of new retail space.”

Rio Nuevo sound great on paper. It remains to be seen if they can really create it. I feel that having a good mix of housing is all important to the success of the Rio Nuevo projects. Revitalization of the Downtown area depends on the cooperation of all the citizens of Tucson.
